Island Bay Marine Education Centre

This week Rimu Whanau experienced a great four days of  EOTC.

Day one was based at school with art as the focus using taonga collected from the beach.  The students were in mixed groups and rotated between the Rimu whanau classes where they painted rocks, did shell art and built forts.

On the second day Rimu whanau visited Avalon Park.  The students did a scavenger hunt, played in the water playground area, fed the ducks at the pond, explored the playground and tried a variety of things the park has to offer.

The third day began with a scavenger hunt at school.  The students searched the main field and playground looking for different taonga and answered questions in pairs.  In the afternoon they played soccer and had water play on the slip and slide.

The final day was spent at Island Bay Marine Education Centre.  The students explored the rocky shore searching for different taonga. Inside the Marine Education Centre they carefully touched different sea creatures like spider starfish, sea anemones, paua and lots of other interesting things while some students fed the turtles and fish.

It was a great week of exploring the taonga in our school and the Wellington community.  The students had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Thank you to all the parents who gave up their time to help us during the week you made the experience for the Rimu Whanau extra special
